DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

 
The University of Sharjah is currently advertising for the position of Dean of the College of Business Administration. The position will commence at the start of the academic year 2010/2011.  Applicants meeting the below criteria are invited to apply immediately.
 
The University of Sharjah is a non-profit independent institution with a total enrollment of 9,500 students and 450 full-time faculty members. The University offers diverse programs in a variety of specializations through its colleges of Sharia and Islamic Studies, Sciences, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Business Administration, Engineering, Health Sciences, Law, Medicine, Fine Arts and Design, Communication, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, the Community College, and College of Graduate Studies and Research.  The College of Business Administration includes the following departments:  General Business; Accounting, Finance and Economics; Management, Marketing and Public Administration; and Management Information Systems. Additionally, the College offers an executive master’s degree in Business Administration (EMBA). The University is located within the prestigious Sharjah University City surrounded by scenic desert environs, near several locations, and is just a 20 minute drive from the Dubai International Airport and a five-minute drive from the Sharjah International Airport.
 
SCOPE OF WORK
The Dean of the College of Business Administration reports directly to the Chancellor and directs, administers, coordinates all research and educational and training activities related to the College, develops in cooperation with the faculty strategic directions and plans for the College, and integrates the College’s activities within the socio-cultural framework of the UAE and region.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Dean is expected to:
- Create and maintain a strong Business Administration services network outside the College to facilitate education, training and research.
- Establish and supervise the implementation of strategic directions, goals, objectives and policies, in relation to education and research within the College and across the College’s departments.
- Represent the University in the Business Administration field at various forums outside the University.
- Recommend and supervise the development and implementation of the annual budget for the College and perform periodic productivity and effectiveness analyses. 
- Develop and maintain a network of adjunct professors to support the College in research and educational activities.
- Recommend and participate in the development of University policies and procedures.
- Coordinate agreements with ministries, relevant authorities and agencies within the UAE and abroad.
- Have knowledge of human resources, management concepts, practices, policies, and procedures in higher education.
-  Foster and create research programs relevant to the region.
- Have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Demonstrate experience in communication with Business Administration networks and establishments and other related institutions for activating education and research.
- Demonstrate experience with international Business Administration institutions, companies and organizations, as well as international accreditation commissions.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The applicant must possess the following:
- The rank of full professor in one of the College’s fields.
- Full command of spoken and written English and preferably Arabic.
- Demonstrable qualities of leadership and a research background in business administration.
- A clear vision for the development of higher education in general and the College in particular.
- Experience with the credit hour system.
- Familiarity with AACSB accreditation standards.
- Significant administrative experience preferably at the level of dean at a reputable university.
